In 1996 the above listed authors decided to start working on a book on the OHE. All of them had a special relation to the OHE - most of us were living in Celle (were the OHE also has its administration) and one was working for the museum railway "Arbeitsgemeinschaft Verkehrsfreunde Lüneburg" (AVL) which is riding on OHE tracks. Basis for the book was the material which we had collected during the past years, but it didn't take much time to find out that the material wasn't sufficient to provide a complete history of the OHE. Therefore we started to visit local and state owned archives where we found lots of new information. But some questions remained unanswered - but maybe these problems can be solved in the future.

Finding new information on railway and locomotive history is always a fantastic experience. I remember very well when I found in the Hannover State Archive the evidence that the WLE steam locomotives 1 and 2 were not scrapped after the withdrawal (as always published in literature) but sold and used on the Celle-Wittingen light railway. Such discoverys compensate a bit for all the hours sitting in front of old dirty files written in the hard to read old German typeface.

If you don't know the book yet you will find some extracts from the book below. But if you already have the book on your book shelve, you might be interested in the corrections which we found in the meantime.
