Now I can concede that there is a large difference between the knowledge I had when this book was published and the knowledge of today. That doesn't mean that the data in the book are wrong or not complete - the correctness was checked by Oskar Pieper whoch cross checked the manuscript - but the way to work on this subject hasn't been very professional. One example I want to mention is the abbreviation "Rei" for the "Reichseisenbahnen" in Alsace-Lorraine - each other locomotive historian would use "EL" or "AL". But I shouldn't backbite the book. For the enthusiast who is interested in an overview of the numeration of all German locomotives will find in the book what he needs. But I should remark, that the book isn't available in the bookstores anymore.

Please let me add some details on the "technical history" of this book. Today it's no problem for anybody to create a perfect layout with his own PC. But in the middle of the 80ies that wasn't so simple. The whole data collection was done on a "Commodore 64" computer using the wordprocessing program "Vizawrite". But it didn't take very long and that computer wasn't efficient enough any more. So a "Atari ST" computer was bought (by the way still in working conditions) and the data were transferred from the Commodore to the Atrai using a self made RS232 connection. The printout was done by another student, who had a typewriter "Gabriele" (sorry, can't remember the manufacturer) connected to his Atrai. But printing took some time, because the device became too hot quite fast and if feeded with endless paper after at least 5 pages the paper had to be readjusted.
